Christ is Risen!

I still don't have time to blog. My thoughts on them: I don't like them. I personally know quite a few people who have them and they run the gamut. Military types like Cavey have them. Coptic Christians have them as some cultural indicator. Hawaiians and other cultures have them. That said, even though people I love and respect have them, I don't care for them. I really don't like them on women because it sends a message. That message is of desperation when I see a middle aged women with a new tramp stamp.

Therefore I present this articleon the subject from a self-described 23-year-old who is already an old fogey. I haven't read this bright young man's full blog yet, therefore I can't tell if he belongs to either an Orthodox jurisdiction, the Anglican one, or the Roman one. I do like what I see so far. Oh to be that young again. I had a lot more time to write.

Paschal Greeting 2013

Blessings upon you. Tonight all over the world, Orthodox Christians celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord. I have already completed one Western Style Vigil from Lancelot-Andrewes Press Book of Common Prayer (stopping short of the Mass) and will attend a Russian style service in about 90 minutes. Tomorrow, I will finally have pancakes.

Well, I was going to do a little beer review before Great Lent began, like Cisco's Moor Porter, or Ommegang's "Game of Thrones" based on the books and HBO series (which is an x-rated version of Lord of the Rings plus War and Peace), but instead of that, the first thing I saw when I booted up my dashboard was 3 comments. One was about beer, which I posted. But the other two were from a couple of jackenapes from Met. Aganfangel's group who did nothing but bitch about somebody else instead of me. I can see people taking issue with me or the things I say and do, but bitching like a couple of feminzais on the rag about someone who doesn't even own this blog takes the cake. Out of respect for the person they're bitchin' about, I will not repeat it here.

But to you two toss-offs (you know who are) first, Deacon Joseph sums it up quite nicely: Dear Met. Agafangel, Please give us a break! Secondly, if you have a problem with someone, take it up with them! What they do is what they do and I DON'T CARE what they do. If they won't let you post on their blog, well tough shit. I'm not their father, their priest, their governor, mayor, or dog catcher. Leave me the feck out of it!

Seriously! How effen stupid do you have to be and how little of a life do you have to try to queef about somebody who has nothing to do with this blog?! I'm getting really tired of people like you two who can't read and ignore the Code. Actually, you're the only two in this blogs history. So let me spell it out for you: you are excommunicated from this blog. You have posted your last. And do as the song says:

Beer reviews 3/9/13

I recognize the following:

First from Lagunitas is "WTF". I don't call the style but it's good.

Alaska Brewing Company "Freeride" is an American Pale Ale.

A whole bunch of new breweries are popping up in MN. One brew is "Hotbox" from Indeed Brewing. It's a pepper smoked porter.

Last is "Amuste" by O'Dells and one of my new favorites. It's a porter with grape peels aged in pino barrels. I think you'll like them all.

In answer to a question in the comments, No my friend, I've never tried any of the beer in North Carolina. But I'll be certain to in the future."

I swear to God this isn't me!

I just discovered this video. I do not usually discuss my former Church anymore, and this is really dated, but I think alot of you will get a kick out of this one way or the other. Sophocles, Cavey, Steve the Builder and everyone else who knows me will verify that isn't me in the video. I would be drinking a beer and talking about it too.

Spring Break

I finally get a chance to nap and write some beer reviews. I really need to write them down when I find them. Summit Maibock is out, and it's not even Spring yet. Since I wont be in school the next week, I'll have time to practice my stenography, go to Monday evening karate class, and get the Propers down. I'll even get a better look at the Liturgies of Sts. Isidore & Leander, Germanus of Paris, and the Sarum use.

Oscars

I never watch them. They're a vain, self-congratulatory pat on the back for welfare recipients who are over-sexed, over-paid, over-pampered, under-brained, and would be waiting tables if they weren't famous. There was some hubbaloo over the Family Guy. He's also jumped the shark.

Penn&Teller

I have mixed feelings about them. Yeah they're libertarians like me; but unlike me, they hate religion. Penn (the one who talks) would also make a Sailor say he swears too much. They had/have a show called "BS" on Showtime where they attack things they don't like: Unions; Walmart haters; Communism; The Vatican; the Boy Scouts; and Mother Teresa, Ghandi, and The Dalai Lama. My Catholic Cavebuddies would've found the last two hard to take. Ironically they also had a show called "Penn & Teller Tell a Lie" where they made one thing up and you had to guess what it was. Sometimes I think they're the same show. But at least I know where they stand.

Someone doesn't like my blog

Oh, I just HAVE to share this. Uh, I never claimed to be a teacher or that this blog was ever good. It's supposed to suck. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. It's about what I like from beer to pro rasslin'. I wonder if this guy is the same kind of people whom act like we're "intruding" when we visit their church? I'm glad to not be on the "royal path" and part of the "One True Church." He can bugger off.

The Divine Liturgy of Saint Germanus of Paris

It's not the original but a reconstruction based on surviving fragments and historical evidence on what people were doing at the time. In any rate, you may listen to it (in French) here, and read the text (in English) here. As you can see and hear, it's got a good dose of Western and Eastern style in it, either because of the original or the reconstructors. In any rate, it was revived by the Russian Church, and most notably St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, who has a parish named after him in Des Moines, IA who celebrates this very Liturgy. There are also Old Calendarist jurisdictions that worship with this Liturgy

Episcopal Assembly on Abortion

I am not a fan of the Episcopal Assembly. I have always thought it a red-herring in order to derail any true efforts at unity in North America to place it under Black Bart. Arguments can and are made about the EA even from it's own members. However once in a awhile, they do something that restores my faith in the local espicopate. This joint statement is one of those things that show there are actual Orthodox bishops at least on this issue. Read it here.

Help Met. Jonah

It's currently -7 F (-30 with wind chill) in MN right now. But it's still not as cold as the way the OCA Synod is treating Met. Jonah. Here is an email I've received.

Dear Fellow Orthodox Christian,   The Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) requested Metropolitan Jonah be released to ROCOR from the OCA more than a month ago. The OCA Synod has yet to release +Jonah, even after the Synod's letter accused +Jonah of being unfit for the OCA.  In addition, the OCA has stopped providing a salary to +Jonah.   I am asking you to do two things TODAY to assist +Jonah, as the OCA Synod meets in 7 days.   1.  Write a letter to the OCA Synod and Metropolitan Tikhon kindly asking that the OCA Synod release Metropolitan Jonah to ROCOR. The address is: Metropolitan Tikhon and the OCA Synod, c/o St. Nicholas Cathedral, 3500 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington DC 20007   2.  Write a letter to Archbishop Justinian of the Moscow Patriarchate asking that a.  He speaks to the OCA Synod and asks them to release +Jonah to ROCOR, and b.  if the OCA does not release +Jonah, that +Justinian asks Patriarch Kirill to mercifully accept +Jonah into the Moscow Patriarchate. The Atkins diet and Orthodoxy

Though I'm in really good shape thanks to the American Shorin Ryu Federation I still have some chub in the abdomen that not even 120 sit-ups a night (twice a week during an intense cardio workout) would erase. My returning to school to get retrained has cut down in my karate training. During Lents I usually put myself and the TW on a fruit/smoothie diet. This time we're trying the Atkins Diet which means for the induction period (at least two weeks) you completely erase carbohydrates from your diet and don't even touch bread. This also means i have all this beer and wine that isn't getting drunk, and today a coworker bought us all doughnuts at the spa, and I didn't have one. That's impossible at Church. The Eucharist is always bread and wine, which are two things you avoid in the Atkins diet. Great Lent is coming and that's makes it even more difficult. By then we'll be past the induction period and may or may not get our protein from Fast approved sources. It depends on how we're looking. This just reaffirms what I've always known about Orthodoxy: nothing is ever easy.
